Robert Holt broke Navan hearts as he kicked Edenderry Under 19's to victory in Navan on Saturday afternoon.
Edenderry won this match 18 points to 12 points with all Edenderry scores coming from the boot of Robert Holt. This match was played in excellent weather conditions however it was a war of attrition with the packs dominating the possession throughout. There was a very high penalty count in both halves however Edenderry punished Navan and were 9-0 up for a long period in the first half with Edenderry scoring 3 penalties and Navan missing the same amount.
With just minutes to go in the first half Navan went over for a try but failed to convert and with seconds remaining Edenderry converted another penalty to go in at half time 12-5 up.
With the second half only 5 minutes old Navan scored a well deserved try and conversion and the signs looked ominous for the Edenderry lads. However Edenderry stuck to their game plan and as the Navn team's discipline disimporved Edenderry scored two more penalties to win the game 18-12. Edenderry worked hard for this victory with a team that was missing a few key players through injury and the Edenderry pack should feel proud of their efforts against a very physical and well drilled Navan unit.
While the backs did not got much exposure on Saturday they kicked well and held possession very well. This is a major victory for this young team and one that they hopefully build upon in the season to come.
