Edenderry Seconds lose out to Carlow

Edenderry seconds played Carlow, who sit just above them in the league table, this week in the Midlands Provincial league.

With only two games to play Edendery needed a win to keep them in the running for the league but unfortunately it didnt happen for them on the day and Carlow came away with a bonus point win.

Derry started well but Carlow were first on the score board with a try out wide on the right after a good move between the centres left a lot of space outside, a strong tackle from Wilie Crampton almost kept Carlow at bay but they broke down the blindside and scored. Derry were well up for the game though and they kept with Carlow for the first half, scoring 3 penalties from the boot of Stephen Cummins who started at outhalf this week, and going into the break only 13 - 9 down, Carlow adding another try outwide towards the end of the half.

Derry struggled in the second half however. A lack of quick ball from the scrum or lineout made life difficult for the team while Carlow on the other hand attacked well, finding gaps and adding a further two tries for the bonus point win.

The seconds play Tullamore next week in their final game of the league but they still have the midlands league final to play against Roscrea and a cup run to begin in early April.
