Edenderry seconds also enjoyed a win on Sunday last against local rivals Birr in the South Leinster Provincial league.
Colm Carter and co. in the Derry lineout dominated on their own ball and stole a number of oppositions throw ins. The scrum settled in the second half and became a good platform for attack, after some early confusion between Dunne and Dunne at 8 and 9, and Derry also tackled well throughout and were much better at retaining possession in the tight, allowing far fewer turnovers than in previous games. In fact had it not been for a string of unforced handling errors the homeside could have added much more to the score board and seen the game out much more comfortably. Best on the day for Edenderry were Richie Smyth, Colm Carter and Chris Furey for the sheer control in the lineout .Alderton at first center made some great tackles as always and Cummins was his reliable self with the boot. Shane Melias work rate in the first half was excellent and the homeside did well to keep Birr down to three points.
Not their best performance of the year but another good win for this seconds team who are now undoubtedly building up for their cup game in April. Their next outing is against League Leaders Portlaoise away on Sunday next the 28th of February. Kick off is 1.00pm and this will be a real test for the Derry side that have now won their last three on the trot.
