2nd XV Mark Another Win

Edenderry 2nd XV also travelled away to Birr for their first 'Speirs Cup' league match last weekend. The game also counted towards the midland league
and Edenderry 2nds have now won their side of the group in the midland league with victory's against Longford and Birr. The game started out as a very tight affair, the opening 20 minutes saw both sides competing hard for procession and it wasn't until the 25 minute that Edenderry broke the deadlock and saw Gavin Murray finishing a fine move with a try after good hands in the backline - Sam Holt Converted.

Edenderry then added another try in the 30 minute after some good work by the forwards drove into the Birr half and with the ball moved wide to the
right wing Sam Holt evaded the tackle to score in the corner. Birr came back well towards the end of the half  and after some pressure the Edenderry back line were caught off guard - a kick over the top was not cover and centre raced in for a try under the posts which was converted. The score was 12-7 at the break.  

The second half saw Birr put in a strong charge and with a penalty after 5 minutes which got them back to within 2 points of the away side. Willie Crampton kicked a penalty for Edenderry to open the lead again - Birr replied with another penalty to leave it 15-13. It was proving to be a dog fight with both teams defending well and restricting good possesion.

Edenderry did look under pressure for a while and it was Crampton again with a fine charge through the centre to score a try under the posts after a nice move between Quinn and Kilally that sealed the victory and left the score 22-13. Edenderry did go on to add another penalty with 5 minutes to go to leave it 25-13 and Gavin Murray finished off a fine victory with a great finish for his second try, in the corner after a switch move in the centre sent the Birr defence the wrong way.
